BASIC CIVIL ENGINEERING

PART A
1. 1) What are the quality requirements for aggregates?
2) Explain briefly, raff foundation with neat sketch.
3) Draw the plan of alternate courses in Flemish bond for cross junction of 2 walls of
1 ½ brick thickness.
4) What are the advantages of steel trusses?
5) Compare English bond & Flemish bond.
PART B
2. What are various methods for testing of bricks?

3. What is shallow foundation? Explain different types of shallow foundations.
4. The following consecutive readings were taken with a dumpy level.
1.895, 1.500, 1.865, 2.570, 2.990
2.020, 2.410, 2.520, 2.960, 3.115.
The level; was shifted after 4th ,6th & 9th readings. The R.L of the first point was
30.500. Calculate the RLs of points & apply the usual checks.
